Me Wants a Dyson…

It’s contest time again over at 5 minutes for mom. This time, they’re giving away a Dyson Slim Vacuum.

Go on over and read all about it.

I could definitely use a new vacuum to go along with our new house!

New Resource for Working From Home

I found a new site that looks to be pretty promising.

eMomsAtHome is both a great resource and blog for motivation, networking, and work at home ideas.

There’s a lot of content on both the main site and the blog and I’m just starting to peruse it, but I think you’ll find some useful information.

For my curiosity only, do you find sites like these useful?

Why oh why do I keep reading Parents Behaving Badly?

Have you heard of this site?

Parents Behaving Badly is a blog where they post various stories of parents mistreating their children.

Actually, mistreating is an understatement since a lot of the stories result in death.

I’m not sure why I keep going back to read it. Just about every story breaks my heart.

It’s really sad what some of these parents jerks (keeping it friendly here, I really want to throw some other words out) do to their kids.

I really need to stop reading this site.

It’s like a bad reality TV show, though. You know it sucks, you know it’s crap, but you just want to know what happens next….

Warning: Too freaking cute moment coming up.

Sometimes baby girl does the cutest, most adorable thing and it just makes us want to poke our eyes out from how freaking cute she is.

Her latest game is to go around shaking our hands saying “ow err you”, which is 15 month old talk for “How are you?”.

She’ll start with the person closest to her and will work her way around the room until she gets everybody (usually my parents, husband, and I) and will then start the process all over again.

She’ll do this about 5 times in a row before she stops, giggling along the way.

This is just one of her many I’m too freaking cute and I know it moments.

Ughhhhh - Mondays….

It’s Monday once again. :-P

Does anybody like Mondays?

Definitely going through the “don’t want to be at work and Mondays suck” ritual.

This morning, bright and early, as I’m trying to leave the house to get to work, my baby girl decides to throw a tantrum cause she couldn’t have a lei hanging in her room. Niiiiice. Just what I needed.

Alright, rather than bore you with how much I hate Mondays right now, I’ll leave you with the following Monday Madness questions:

  1. What kind of automobile do you drive?
    ‘02 Toyota Camry
  2. What kind of automobile do you WISH you drove?
hmmm…not sure, I like my Camry
  3. When is the last time you bought a vehicle (new or used)?
    2005
  4. What is your color of choice as far as vehicles go?
    black
  5. Do you regularly have your oil changed?
    yes
  6. How long do you generally keep a vehicle before thinking about buying a new one?
I’ve had my Camry for almost 5 years if that tells you anything.
  7. What kind of automobile will you buy next?
Not sure we’ll be buying one anytime soon.

Have a great Monday everyone! Hope you have a better start to your week than I’m having.

We’ll be moving soon!

If you’ve been keeping up, you’ll know that we are in the process of building a house. I haven’t really been updating too much on it or posting pictures because I’m a slacker and haven’t taken the pics off my camera.

But that’s not important.

What’s important is that our closing is tentatively set for April 11th, which means we are less than 3 weeks away from getting our new home!

Today we are going by the house (once again - we just can’t stay away!) and will probably check every nook and cranny to be sure the builder is doing their job right.

We just want to prepare ahead of time for our walk-through, which will be on the 5th.

Can you tell I’m excited?! :D

Ok, so now we just have to choose paint colors, curtains, lighting…yada yada yada

:sigh: Sooooo much to do!

If Gumdrops Fell Like Raindrops…

If Gumdrops Fell Like Raindrops CoverI received the CD version of If Gumdrops Fell Like Raindrops… A Collection of Poems. I really enjoyed the topics covered in the poems, ranging from eating vegetables and not liking school to really serious subjects such as being adopted and the birth of a sibling. The poems are fun, catchy, and even humorous at times.

I imagine that the book version of If Gumdrops Fell Like Raindrops includes some great graphics to go along with each poem, but when listening to poems being read, it can get a bit monotonous at times. I think if more music were incorporated into each reading, it would help. Some music is used, but it’s usually only as an interlude between tracks or as a short introduction to a poem. Exceptions are tracks number 32, 44, and 52, titled A Cause for Celebration, We, and Story Time respectively. These tracks are set to what the CD literature calls “rap music”. I applaud the effort of the performers, The Storycrafters, to mix it up a bit and be hip, but the readings end up sounding like bad PSAs from the early 90s. Track number 44, We, is especially guilty since the topic for this poem is about racial tolerance and getting along with one another.

Nevertheless, If Gumdrops Fell Like Raindrops, is an innovative approach to introducing children to various aspects of life and would make for a good addition to your children’s CD collection. At the very least, it definitely brings a much welcome change to the likes of The Wiggles, Ralph’s World, and Dan Zanes.

Everyone needs to quit!

We’re all used to the articles stating that children do better if mom doesn’t work and instead stays home with her kids.

Well it seems that now dads need to quit their day jobs also.

The Guardian recently posted an article about a new study which found that babies do better when dad stays home and spends more time with them. Titled, “Baby does best with dad off work, study finds“, the article begins by saying:

Children are more likely to suffer development problems if their fathers do not take paternity leave or spend enough time with them when they are very young, according to an analysis of thousands of babies born around the turn of the millennium.

How’s that for a guilt trip?

While all of us are going “Duh! Of course it’s better if we stay home and spend more time with our children!”, apparently, this is the “…first study to confirm that the close involvement of a father also has a significant impact on a child’s future.” - the word also referring to the fact that they already know a mother’s involvement has a huge impact on children.

If you wish to read the full article, you can do so at The Guardian’s site.

My question to you is, if both moms and dads stay home with the kids and don’t work, won’t you still be causing developmental problems in your children since you won’t be able to afford to feed them? ;)
