Feliz Navidad!
Today is Christmas Eve or Noche Buena.
For Puerto Ricans, this is the day of celebration.
It is the day when we cook our big dinner - pasteles, arroz con gandules, and pernil.

Happy Birthday Baby Girl!
Dear baby girl, aka the monkey:
Today you turn 2 years old. Wow, time has passed by super fast.
I still have the image of when I first saw you in the hospital engraved in my head.
You see, I didn’t get to hear you screaming as you were brought into this world. Or, see the nurses cleaning you up…
I heard you gave them hell, though. 
Daddy says you were so strong and were holding on tight to the cords and wouldn’t let go.
Mami missed it, though. Mami was asleep.
But, as soon as I woke up, I asked about you.
In fact, I asked about you many many times.
Daddy was laughing at mami because I kept asking if he had seen you and if you were ok.
Mami was groggy from the drugs, baby girl.
But, then, they brought you.
And there you were, all bundled up in your beanie and swaddled in your blankie.
All I could see were two lil dark eyes peeking out at me.
And they were the most beautiful things in the world.
Now you’re becoming a big girl. Everyone else is a “baby”.
It sure has been fun these past 2 years. And, I can’t wait to see what other surprises you bring me.
So far, I know that you are super independent, very smart, and a lil diva. You’re definitely gonna give us a hard time when you get to be a teenager.
But, that is ok. It’ll be good for you to be a strong woman.
For now, though, you’re still my baby girl.
And even if you think you’re not a baby, you are to me.
So, happy birthday baby girl. Mami loves you.

The Backyardigans - Our newest favorite show
We’ve recently started watching The Backyardigans on Nick Jr.
The show is very cute and is all about five friends who play in their backyard and use their imagination to create the story.
Each episode is set to a different musical style and is choreographed - the songs are great!
Our favorite has to be Mission to Mars featuring the voice of Alicia Keys!
The show is just made for toddlers - singing, dancing, silly jokes - but, my favorite part of it is that they use their imagination!
Our baby girl loves the show and always jumps around and dances along. She also has learned just about all the songs. I think she believes Tyrone is her boyfriend. She sure does pretend to talk to him on the phone a lot.
Another favorite of ours is The Legend of the Volcano Sisters

Eeek! Birthday Party Rapidly Approaching!
Baby girl’s birthday is in less than a week! We’ve planned to throw a little party for her, but not much has been made in the preparation department.
I mean, I sent out the invitations…
But, that’s about it.

Catching Up
Man oh man…so much has been going on…
Husband has been out of work for almost 4 months now. Job market is just so slow right now. Hopefully the new year will bring about some prospects. It’s been hard and he’s (we’re) definitely frustrated, but we’re hanging in there.
In the meantime, we’ve been working on setting up our freelance web / graphic design business - might as well use the free time and do something productive, right? Still, that’s also hard, since I’m not able to help out too much, as I’m still working full-time and my job is super busy. But, it’s coming along.
Baby girl will be turning 2 in a few days and she’s definitely in her terrible 2s! The lil diva won’t stand for nothing! Everyone tells us it’s just a phase and she’ll grow out of it, bla bla bla, but damn, it’s hard to deal with. Potty training was attempted and well, that’s it. She thinks the potty chair is a toy, so we figured she’s not ready yet. Oh, and have I mentioned that she still drinks milk from a bottle and uses a binky? Yea, we have a lot of work to do - we know.
To add to all the madness, my father was just recently diagnosed with early alzheimer’s. He’s doing fine and you can’t really tell much difference, but it’s just little things here and there. We’re starting to learn to make small changes to adjust.
But, 2007 is almost over, so I can only hope that 2008 will bring better things our way…
