What to do on My Day Off?
How sad is this?
I have a 3 day weekend coming up and I’m not even sure what to do with myself on Monday!
I have a few choices in mind - errands, house work, “me” time, but can’t decide.
So, let’s do a little poll…
What should I do on my day off on Monday?
- Organize closets - mine and baby girl’s
- Work on baby girl’s baby album/scrapbook
- Drop her off with grandparents for a couple of hours so I can get a mani/pedi and eyebrows waxed
- Go to bank to open up bank account for baby girl
- Go return various items purchased prior to our Hawaii trip (various stores)
This is what happens when you work during the week and can’t run errands on a regular basis.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments!

Housework, Giggle and Run, and Babies
Eeek! It’s been almost a week since I posted.
And what a week it’s been!
(Don’t worry, the title will make sense soon.)
Let’s see - we went to a friend’s house over the weekend and stayed overnight.
She has a 3 month old baby girl and a 5 year old little boy and it’s been at least a year since we had seen each other!
Needless to say, the baby is a.do.ra.ble! And, it was hilarious to watch my 2 year old baby girl play hide & seek with her son. It was more like “giggle & run” than actual hiding.
Of course, it was back to the work week after that - and it’s been a busy work week!
Where does the time go when you’re sitting in meetings each day?
But, I do have to say that the husband and I have been trying to stick with our managing housework schedule and we’ve actually kept up with it this week! He’s been great help and took on the sweeping and mopping last night while I cooked dinner!
Thankfully, I have a 3 day weekend coming up and hopefully we’ll be able to organize and paint our office.
Great plans for the weekend, huh? But, when you’ve been having fun the past few weekends, it’s time to take a break and give the house some TLC too.
What are your big plans for this weekend?

Pocoyo - Newest show on our DVR list
We’ve found this great new show called Pocoyo.
It’s really cute and my daughter absolutely loves it!
Pocoyo is this little boy (about 3 or 4) who has some animal friends he plays with.
The animation of the show is very simple with just a white background and the objects/characters being animated. The simplicity adds to the greatness of the show.
Not only does my daughter love it, but my husband and I have gotten really into it - I mean it’s a preschool show, but I’m pretty sure we’d watch it even if my daughter wasn’t around.
It’s that good! And funny!
Oh and the name? Well it roughly means “little me” in Spanish. The story of how he was named is…also cute!
From the Pocoyo site:
…came from the two year old daughter of…the creator of Pocoyo. She used to say a prayer every night…[while] still learning to talk. One night instead of saying “como yo” (meaning “like me”) the words came out “poco yo”…So, Pocoyo was born, thanks to the funny way in which all children often mix up their words when first learning to talk!
Pocoyo can be found:
- on his blog (though it doesn’t seem like it was recently updated)
- official site
- and on YouTube
Let me know if you check it out and what you think. But, I think you’ll love it!

Christmas in June?
Baby girl has a favorite song.
She sings it all the time - every day - more than once a day.
And she makes you sing it with her.
If you don’t, she’s not happy.
She even gives you a cue: “And a one two three. Go.”
I’ve heard of Christmas in July, but Christmas in June?
It is at our house!
Yup, every day, we get a little bit of the Christmas spirit, as our baby girl sings Jingle Bells for us.
Won’t you join us?
All together now…
Jingle bells, batman smells, robin laid an egg…
Oh wait! That’s not the version she sings. Silly me.
But, is it stuck in your head now?

Brushing Teeth Technique for Toddlers/Preschoolers
I was watching last week’s Supernanny - I’m lucky I have a DVR, otherwise I’d never watch TV!
Anyway, in last week’s episode, the family had an almost 5 year old girl, and twin 3 1/2 year old boys.
Well, the parents were complete control freaks! They wouldn’t let the kids run a few feet ahead of them. And, they didn’t let the kids brush their own teeth.
You should have seen how they brushed the teeth for them! It was like torture for the kids.
They laid them down and propped their heads up on pillows and while the kid screamed, brushed their teeth.
Supernanny offered them a pretty cool technique for allowing the kids to brush their own teeth. She gave them all their own portable mirrors so they could see themselves while brushing. And, she told the mom to sing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” two times. That way, the kids knew how long they should brush their teeth.
Who knew?
I thought that was really useful and a good way to provide kids with a cue to know how long they should brush their teeth. Or even a cue for me to know!
I think I’m going to try it with baby girl and see if it’ll help her to get better at brushing her teeth.
Now, how to teach her to spit the tooth paste out and not swallow it?

Toddlers Make up Great Stories!
Here’s the story my baby girl told us this morning - bright (actually not so bright as it was not even 6 am!) and early!
As told by my 2 and a half year old:
Once upon a time, there was King Daddy and Queen Mommy and Princess [her name].
Here’s your crown daddy.
Here’s your crown mommy.
[Daddy added a line - "And, here's your crown princess"].
The end.
It’s only great to us parents - I know. But, that’s all that matters.

Toddler PMS
I swear my daughter has PMS some days.
She’s 2 1/2 - well not even, but it’s just a few days away.
She has begun the excessive whining stage.
And I do mean excessive.
We can say something nice to her, like “I’m proud of you for eating like a big girl!”
Response - “I’M NOOOT!” or “I DOON’T!”…and cue crying.
What the hell?
You would think I just accused her of…of…well, I can’t even think of something so bad that I could accuse her of to make her cry like that.
And trying to talk to her when she starts up to find out what’s wrong, just makes it worse. The crying gets louder and she then tries to cling to you. So much for acknowledging her feelings and attempting to get her to express them.
So, what the hell am I supposed to do?
Today I was doing dishes and talking to the husband who was sitting on the couch. (Our kitchen faces out to the family room.)
I guess I was talking too loud or something because all of a sudden she starts crying. She was just sitting next to him watching TV. I was just talking. I was not screaming and I wasn’t even talking at her.
But there she went.
It’s just another phase. It’s just another phase that will also pass. (This is what I tell myself. Well me and everyone else tells me the same.)
Ok, but it’s a REALLY irritating one.

Learning to Read
Baby girl read her first word!
I have a shirt that says “mom” on it - it was a Mother’s Day gift.
Well, last night, as I’m putting on her jammies, she points to the letters and says:
M - O - M - MOM!
Wow! The husband and I were just completely amazed.

Quick Update
Oh my God!
I promise, I didn’t stay in Hawaii…though I wish I had!
I should have taken a few extra days to get my house (and life) back in order after returning from the trip.
So, needless to say, it’s been a busy week and a half, trying to recuperate from the trip and get back into our normal routine.
Work is very busy, baby girl caught a slight cold, my mother caught the cold from her, and I’ve been running around in circles!
I will update soon and will write all about the trip and include some pictures.
Just give me a few days (hopefully)…cross your fingers! ![]()
